T.W.I.S.T is a foot stomping, soul quaking, and heart pounding evening-length dance theater performance performed by five female athletes of the heart who embody Myers’ signature fusion of personal theatricality and robust physicality. An acronym for These Women in Space and Time, T.W.I.S.T offers a variety of engaging acts of female solidarity. The World Premiere of T.W.I.S.T was presented by SMDCAC on April 8-10, 2022 as the culminating event of a two-year commissioned residency. The Yard at Martha’s Vineyard is also a co-commissioner of the new work and will present T.W.I.S.T in July 15th and 16th, 2022.

Adele Myers and Dancers was awarded a 2021 National Dance Project Production grant for the development and touring of T.W.I.S.T and was created during a two-year commissioned residency at the Moss Center (formerly South Miami Dade Cultural Arts Center). The Yard at Martha’s Vineyard is a co-commissioner of T.W.I.S.T and will present the evening-length dance theater work as part of the national tour in July 2022. T.W.I.S.T was made possible by New England Foundation for the Arts' National Dance Project, with lead funding from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. General Operating Support was made possible by the New England Foundation for the Arts’ National Dance Project with funding from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.

 

The World Premiere presentation of T.W.I.S.T at the Moss Center (formerly South Miami Dade Cultural Arts Center) is funded in part by a grant from South Arts in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and the State of Florida. This presentation was also made possible by the New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA). NEFA's National Dance Project is generously supported with lead funding from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, with funding for special initiatives from the Barr Foundation, the Boston Foundation, and the Aliad Fund at the Boston Foundation.

 

TWISTalks are the creative research and community engagement part of T.W.I.S.T developed with support from the NCCAkron Satellite Residency program. TWISTalks are nationwide virtual gatherings of women on a national scale who share, listen, laugh and twist against disempowering ways we move through the world in our daily choreographies. 2022 TWISTalks were facilitated by the following research partners for T.W.I.S.T : Dr. Tracy Alloway, award-winning Psychologist and author of Think Like a Girl, and founder of Somatic Soul Food, Toranika Washington, who is also a Somatic Educator and Leadership Coach.
